Values Quotes – Charles Schulz on Hope

Today’s quote is from Charles Schulz, the cartoonist best known for the comic strip Peanuts and the famous character Charlie Brown.

An insightful quote from Schulz is:
“A whole stack of memories never equal one little hope.”

I thought this was very fitting as we end one year and get ready to begin a new one, where Schulz highlights the importance of hope.

As a differentiating value, Hope means full of promise; a great expectation; or to be optimistic.

So, why is it that some people are stuck in the past? They can describe past events with such detail it’s like watching a movie. Yet they have no apparent interest in what will happen tomorrow. It’s because they’re lacking even a little hope.

But those who have hope appreciate its potential and power. It gives them the strength to break through walls, leap tall buildings, and run faster than a speeding bullet. In other words, hope gives us superhero powers where we feel like Superman!

Ok, that’s a different cartoon story that Charlie Brown….

But Charlie Brown’s creator understood the power of hope, which may have been what kept him going, creating new Peanuts’ cartoons for 50 years that generated over a billion dollars a year in revenue!

So… as you look back and ponder over a whole stack of memories, make sure you also have a little hope. It will give you the superhero powers needed to do even greater things in the future!
